Small chest

Solid walnut and veneering on oak, blackened wood, Germany, XVII century.

This small piece of furniture is decorated on all four sides. The lid is surmounted by a “cushion” in diamond stitch which slides and conceals the two keyholes. This type of furniture could only be opened in the presence of its two owners, each having his own key. The hardware is of the period.
